Dear all in the Pynchon Community,

International Pynchon Week will take place in Vancouver June 7-10, 2022.
Please visit the IPW website <https://www.internationalpynchonweek.org/> to
see the program of papers, what’s shaping up to be a really wonderful slate
of presentations. The conference will be hybrid, with a couple dozen
in-person papers on June 7-9 and a Friday June 10 full of papers remotely
delivered from around the world. I'll soon post notices to the Facebook
WASTE page too.

As it notes on the website homepage, anyone planning to attend panels in
person but not scheduled to give a paper must email me to register by May
1. See the website for information on travel and rooms on the UBC campus.
We also plan to livestream (with each speaker’s permission) panels on Zoom
for all to tune in (no advance registration required). I will post Zoom
links for each panel on the Conference Program
<https://www.internationalpynchonweek.org/conference-program> tab shortly
before the conference begins in June.

I'm also pleased to announce that we’ll welcome Jim Gavin for a special
presentation on Tues June 7. Jim is the author of *Middle Men *(2004) and
the creator of the really wonderful Pynchon-inspired TV series you all
should watch, *Lodge 49 <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6128254/>*. We do
plan to livestream Jim’s talk as well.

The world is a mess right now, and I wish you all good health and safe
travels. See the website for links to Canada-specific Covid/travel
information. I think often these days of the suffering, death, and
displacement in Ukraine and of many parts of Pynchon’s writing, in
particular the poignant passage in *GR *beginning “The Nationalities are on
the move. It is a great frontierless streaming” (558-9 in the 2006 ed. with
Frank Miller’s cover). To those of you personally affected by this
violence, our hearts are with you. Not looking forward to more of this war,
but looking forward to discussing with you what Pynchon can teach us about
it all.
