“You are the Justin McElmo?” First time Maxine has heard either of these
goons say “the.”

     The “ear” Pynchon disparaged in “Slow Learner” gives a nice rendition
of a Russian accent imho, as here: this is one of those times when a
definite article isn’t dead weight.
