Looks like a canvas top even over the cab. So that explains raindrops
“bouncing”


The man who showed up looking & acting like he’d been ridden hard & put
away wet is seeking to liaise with the National Guard.

Rizzo, somewhat raucously, sets him straight. Levine unbuckles a little
kindness & apologizes to the officer, even decanting a “sir” for the
occasion.

Rizzo may’ve been exposed to more & certainly reacts less graciously,
reminding Levine in the aftermath of the latter’s apology that “War is
hell.”

Lieutenant Pierce arrives about a half an hour later.

“Well, let’s get moving,” Pierce said. “They’re  bitching back there about
commo.”


“ It turned out the army had taken over McNeese State College, on the
outskirts of the
city, for a base of operations.”


McNeese Junior College then, State University now, is a real place near
Lake Charles.
