that Richard Farina met Bob in August 1961 when
he was with his first wife, folksinger Carolyn Hester, more
famous than Bob or Richard then, of course.

Richard said 'they' might do something together and the next thing to come
along, Carolyn said later, was her next album, for which Bob gave
her one song....*Come Back Baby....*and played on two others.

She became a mass magazine face of the new folk singer movement.

If not even earlier, since Richard met and wed Carolyn in 1960 and must
have talked about the music/folk scene,
Tom must have learned, maybe met Bob, around then, late 1961.
I cannot remember a first meeting time in Hadju's* Positively Fourth
Street *
and no longer have or cannot find my copy.

I have also learned that Farina wrote a song that sent up Dylan later, not
long before the publication of
his novel in 66 and his death.

PS: for some on this mailing:. Richard Farina was Thomas Pynchon's best
friend at Cornell and the dedicatee of *Gravity's Rainbow. *
