Nice long break - hope you’re all immersed in pleasures, foolish or less
foolish - back to it soon.

There’s something interesting in each page & sometimes a lot more that that.

The way Pynchon took his “Wanderjahr” into the Navy showed him a serious
and sobering side of life, and lots of absurdity, but - surprisingly to me
anyway - also maybe the fun lurking therein?


If one of _V._’s themes is about demobilization & what to do with all the
drunken sailors (which I might be the only person to think) - then “The
Small Rain” might be a similar glimpse, looking at the military on an
uncharacteristic mission of mercy, & how it affects an intelligent but
unmotivated individual.
