My "final word" here is the open-ended mystery that Rich and others noted
about this interesting Vanity Fair piece.

What's-His-Name's anti-Americanism is tropistic, now in his blood like holy
wine and manifests itself everywhere, from absolute
blindness over Putin and Ukraine to this latest...just like you (in this
way).

I bet I have read ALL of Pynchon's novels more times than you. And any one.
