A vaporous and mystical passage, the author is saying that whales are
profound because they avoid soundings and both Plato and the planet Jupiter
drink a lot of hot tea around noon and that the author knows that rainbows
are the stamps, or insignia, of the divine and so whales think about
eternal things, and a lot of people won't believe that proposition but
anyone who rejects it is unmade.
