And Chapter 45:

First: In the year 1820 *the ship Essex, Captain Pollard, of Nantucket*,
was cruising in the Pacific Ocean.

And Chapter 55:

In old Harris’s collection of voyages there are some plates of whales
extracted from a Dutch book of voyages, A. D. 1671, entitled “A Whaling
Voyage to Spitzbergen in *the ship Jonas in the Whale, Peter Peterson of
Friesland, master*.”

It may well be the case that both the ship and the captain were from
Bremen, but based on these examples, I still think in this sentence the "of
Bremen" was intended for the ship.
