Admirable muttonchops, on that Blinky Morgan.



Like so many passages in AtD, Merle’s time in Cleveland is interesting in
several ways.
- there’s the Michelson-Morley experiment and all the permutations of a
preoccupation with light
- there’s Blinky Morgan as a famous outlaw and topic of conversation
- the development of Merle’s character as a technician/tinkerer and
roisterer
- Cleveland is where Merle got interested in photography, thanks to Roswell
Bounce
- It’s also where he took up with Dalley’s mother Erlys

- we never get the details of that until much later in the novel, pg 632 in
the Nook edition
- but it’s worth the wait
