Not P but DFW: Series Start

I haven’t read the book; I was put off DFW by what I perceived as a
pervasive anhedonia in _Infinite Jest_ although he did craft some admirable
sentences

I’m also puzzled by “Series Start” - hospitals refer to a series of tests
so maybe that’s an in-house slang for starting such a series?
