Past Present and Future: maybe this is obvious but Pynchon merging his old
global style from earlier books within his later tighter PI detective frame
would be a great way of capping off his career, no doubt commenting on the
troubles of the early 30s, hinting at the Nightmare Years afterwards, with
shadowy commenting on our present dilemmas and potential very dark and
murky future

that's the ticket, mates!
