GR translation: the grotto of one eyeball

Two ideas:

If it’s simply how he looks, then the headlights as they pass illuminate
one eyeball (apparently he has blue eyes?) so that it looks like a jigsaw
piece

Or if it’s what he’s seeing, then the bright light illuminates the blood
vessels inside his eye & all he can see is that pattern which looks like a
jigsaw puzzle
