Back in the day, the smoke was in the serene pastoral forest of Vineland amongst the Traverse clan, rising laminar through the pines, and then becoming a hint of turbulence- "fractal" as it was described...

Before and enduring Mandelbrot, Wolfram and the rest of the modern chorus of chaoticians seeking "you will want cause and effect," as the narrator in Gravity's Rainbow blithely intoned- intuition was enough.

Thinking, as Obama use to say, "History doesn't always move in a straight line. Sometimes it zigs and zags." And it may be like the weather. The climate today may seem headed back to the frigid past but surely the longer trend is hotter. Let's hope not too hot before things become unbearable.
