Less granularity...

 A double Aviation
https://www.liquor.com/recipes/aviation/
The Aviation combines gin, maraschino liqueur and fresh lemon juice alongside that crème de violette, creating a unique, floral cocktail. Gin provides a sturdy base, while maraschino liqueur lends its trademark bittersweet cherry notes and lemon adds necessary acidity. Crème de violette is exceedingly flower-like, so it’s important to use it sparingly and measure your ingredients. Too much, and your Aviation will taste like a bowl of potpourri.

Nobody had ever serenaded her; she's smitten & attributes the smitting to his clarinet.

More Gumshoe's Manual advice: "always be watching for the next ticket to be spring on you with no advance word, no front money, plus that all but certain promise of uncompensated overtime. Someday you may be lucky enough to avoid it, but for now get used to maing out the forms in your head anyway."

I'm definitely not the most attentive reader (examples abound) - but on page 203, she walks out on Hicks...then new section with bold heading, he's striding into her hotel & she's paved the way for the bellboy to escort him to her room, or more likely "rooms".
I'm thinking, hey, neat elliptical date-making, or did I miss where they set that up?

Cork-tipped cigarettes? One wouldn't think they would allow much smoke thru, the cork I'm aware of. But it looks like the cork was wrapped around the outside of the filter.
https://www.quora.com/Why-do-the-majority-of-manufactured-cigarettes-feature-an-orange-filter-tip-with-yellow-flecks

"The origin of the colour scheme is the cork "skin" that was wrapped around the manufactured cigarette mouthpiece.
"A cork wrap was used because the fine paper of the rest of the cigarette had a tendency to stick to the lips when damp, which in turn caused the mouth end to fall to bits and leave shreds of tobacco in the mouth. Cork avoided this."

"Faithful?"
"Maybe not unto death, as Herbert Gustave Schmalz might put it..."
Nifty painting - a bit lurid, maybe
