It's pretty nice, a little sad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxcmC0gpv9w

"Daleko m'e moj Split"

We (Daphne and Adrijana who works at the cigarette factory) are in Fiume, (currently Rijeka) which is on the coast ... if you go sort of north and 'round the horn Trieste is there, but James Joyce left in 1920...
If you go south you'll get to Split, it isn't super far
If you keep going you'll get to Dubrovnik (unlike Bruno)

The song is from the 3 act operetta Little Floramye, by the composer Ivo Tijardovic, and seems like a rather fun piece of work. Mistaken identity, dancing, carnival, forgiveness, deflation of pompous stolen valor, all that good stuff.
Act 3 "ends with laughter, poetry, and lovingly happy ending" (Wikipedia)

Daphne's a friendly sort, accosts this woman apparently just because she likes the song. Adrijana, also a friendly sort, teaches it to her in a friendly cafe where they're allowed to use the piano (probably some tipping involved?)

"They'll excuse your accent, but miss a double-dot on the beat and they'll never let you forget it."

Hmmm...does this ring true?:
double-dotted quarter note = 1 ¾ beats, holding a little longer (probably somewhat poignantly) & normally there'd be a quick (and probably somewhat dramatic) 16th note to fulfill the rest of the 2nd beat.

One of those emotional songs, one gathers.
