So much in ch 20! But ch 19 is calling.

Hicks's psychic aunt Begonia in the Driftless (area in Wisconsin where the glaciers didn't go, kind of a mellow place where Organic Valley dairy etc products come from, also there's a poetry commune https://www.dreamtimevillage.org/ I daydream about joining, maybe at least visit)

Pip pooh-poohs psychical phenomena, but Alf utters a nice set piece:
"It's a strange time we're in just now," Alf reflects, "one of those queer little passaggeways behind the scenery, where popes make arrangements with Fascinst and the needs of cold capitalist reality and those of adjoining ghost worlds come into rude contact...many have been quick to blame it on the War [WWI], on the insupportable weight of so many dead, so many wrongs still unresolved."

Stuffy, over the air, through earphones, Hicks and the radio guys listening in Stupendica's radio shack (Marconi saloon), explicating "freedom":

"...the real thing, what if that's only when they're comin after you for somethin? But they haven't caught you yet. So for a while, as long as you can stay on the run, that's the only time you're really free?"

(Hicks) "Uh-huh, well Stuffy like they say there in the submarine racket, too deep for me."
