Folks interested in reading GR against texts of the 80s and 90s
might also want to check out Pat Cadigan's _Synners_ (1991),
which for my neurons is the finest cyberpunk yet.

For some reason I'm hung up on the notion of memetic countermeasures
(The Dark Dream).  That's what _Synners_ is all about.  Evil corporate
scientists dream up a way to broadcast cortical output.  Experiment
goes wrong and sender has stroke.  Stroke becomes homicidal computer
virus.

Fathers are carriers of the virus of death, and computers are the
infected...

The whole thing takes place in L.A., which is another interesting
resonance.
