an interesting tidbit

Hi everybody--
About three years ago, while going through the Sonic Youth record bins,
I found an album with liner notes by Thomas Pynchon. The record was
called "Barefoot in the Head," by Thurston Moore and members of Borbeto-
magus. If memory serves, it's an account of how he was listening to a
SY live tape from 1980 ("under the influence of some righteous boo")
and became impressed by a certain riff that Moore was playing, which
communicated to him a desire to break free "of all Peggy Lee-derived
shit." Hence the album: Pynchon made a few phone calls, and hooked
Moore up with a couple of the sax players from Borbetomagus, practicioners
of some (extremely) free jazz. The notes are dated from Sommerville, Mass.
I am curious if you all had seen this before, since I didn't see it
cited in _Pynchon_Notes_. Anyhow, this might offer a little insight into
what the great man does in his spare time.
BTW: don't rush right out and buy the album. It is unlistenable noise.
I don't mean this as a value judgement, more a description.
