Bill B:
Ai-yi-yi-YI, Byron freakin' Coley! A madman. Mad, bad, and dangerous
to know, as someone once said of another Byron. Used to see his stuff
in the extremely obscure Boston punk 'zine _Take It!_, which I admit
to writing a couple of things for myself. Funny enough if one happens
to be on his wavelength; brutally weird, w/o the redeeming performances
of a Hunter Thompson or a Richard Meltzer, during all the times whenn
one's *not* (and praise Jah that one's not) on his wavelength. This
guy would have us all exchange all records with, uh, *melodies* on them
for stuff that makes _Metal Machine Music_ sound like recent & shinily
produced R.E.M. The idea that Pynchon, big fan of swing, would hang
out with Coley makes my weltanschauung shrivel up. Undoubtedly this
is something Coley's aware of himself. I applaud your inference that
Coley's the one guilty of the TP forgery. Makes sense from here.
Thanks for the discography!
Here's an idea for a Pynchon-L parlor game: speculations about what
TP does in fact listen to.
Cheers,
Bill M
