I've yet to read _GR_, but I lent _Lot 49_ to a female friend and she wasn't 
too thrilled with it. That might have been because of Pynthon's slightly 
difficult style than any male/female issues.

As a sidenote - is _Slow Learner_ worth looking at? It's either _GR_ or that 
next.
