I agree with much of what Bonnie says in her post received this morning
at 9:32 about VINELAND. GR is such a hard act to follow that *anything*
would seem like a letdown, but there is much in VINELAND to appreciate,
not the least of which is Pynchon's use of television--at least as potent
as his use of film in GR. I would add that VINELAND is about "family values"
of a sort and parent-child relationships in complicated ways (the book is
dedicated to P's parents). I have to wonder, though, about Prairie and
her desire for the return of Brock Vond, even as he is whisked away by
the budget cuts. I have some ideas about that, but I won't commit them
to this venue until after Warwick.
