Another Language

I accidently deleted a message from someone on the list
(the name was something like Heikke) asking me about a book
about Pynchon's work in Italian, and what I knew about it.  The
message writer said that he/she wanted to learn italian and
reading that book might be a fun way to do it.

Well, I neither know anything about Italian nor the book in
question, but it brings back a memory of about twenty years
ago when I was reading through the works of M. Eliade, a 
wonderful writer of Religious Philosophy that Pynchon mentions
in Lot 49.  I found that Eliade had written one work of fiction
in his life, but that it had never been translated from the 
original French (I know I'll spell it incorrectly but it had
such a wonderful title Foret Interdit, translating out to 
Forbidden Forrest).  Incredibly my college library had a copy
of the book.  Always wanting tolearn French I got the book and
a huge French dictionary and set to work.  I'm sure I didn't get
much further than the first page.  Why don't one of you scholars
translate it and publish it so I can read it???
