Arc d'X

A friend of mine just picked up a book on a remainder table called
Arc d'X by Steve Erikson. He says there were about five copies, all brand
new and seemingly purged from some library system due to, in his opinion,
to some steamy sex description of Thomas jefferson & his black mistress.
	The book jacket contains this blurb from TRP:
"Mind warping in its vision, absolute in its integrity, Arc d'X is classic
Erikson--daring, crazy, passionate as any american writing since the 
Declaration of Independence."
	Anyone read or familiar w/ Arc d'X? Critical opinions?
