Two points:
1.  We needn't see e.g. GR's seances as (only) TP's preoccupation with 
systems and control.  They also have their fairly direct historical analogs, 
both on the allied side of WW2 (Brit psywar efforts) and on the other Other 
side, in  Hitler's active involvement with the occult.

2. I'm always surprised at how little attention James Merrill's Light At 
Sandover receives...hanging out with the wrong types, I guess.  This 
fabulous work chronicles his and his partner's decades-long converse with 
the spirit and angel world via a Ouija board.  It sounds crackpot perhaps, 
but besides the fact that Merrill writes some of the most beautiful poetry 
in English (I can think of no one lesser than Keats who equals his urbanity 
and ability to combine object and thought), it presents a facinating 
sociology of an Other side.
