Always willing to look at the offbeat, if only for amusement, I would 
suggest a couple of lines of inquiry concerning the CIA and the occult.

First, of course, consider your sources.  I don't know Ebon, but 
Marchetti is known as one who tends to "enhance" his storytelling.

Second, it would be interesting to see if such experiements (and I don't 
doubt that they could very well have taken place) were done before or 
after publicity hit the West about KGB experiments in parapsychology.  I 
suspect after, as I recall that the erstwhile Sov. intell foax were 
deeply into psychic phenomena (viz. Khirgiz lights for an alternative 
reading).

So, would this be "pure" research, or something along the lines of "we'd 
better cover our asses and make sure there is/isn't something to this, 
cuz the other guys are sure spending money on it?"
