Heidegger-Pynchon connectio

Mr. Severs-

Haven't done much reading of Heidegger (my feeling on philosophy in
general is patently absurd) but when Heidegger says "the worst of this is
that I start beleiving that I'm going to live forever rather than facing
up to my own death...", "no one can distance themselves from they", "they
tell me to forget individuality", etc.-all this from a man who became a
fascist and supporter of Hitler. I guess my question is, if H created
"they", why did he become them or like them or support them? Was his
version of they not as sinister as maybe pynchon's borrowings (did he
change his mind?)? I'm fuzzy on most philosophy so if I'm being naive,
please enlighten.
