This essay finally ended up as part of The Butterfly Stories (a novel).
Grove Press, 1993. Overlook Press just published a book of Ken Miller
photographs of the Tenderloin with the text taken from Vollmann's writings.
A match made in heaven. His next effort is The Atlas, from Viking, due in
the next couple months. This is sort of like rambling, occassional pieces
which would be a good introduction.
His picture on the cover of The Atlas doesn't show him looking too good.
Rumor has it that all the whoring in Thailand (sans prophylactics) resulted
in what would be expected.
By the way, and sort of unrelated to this particular posting, when has the
lack of a plot been a detriment. How about so many plots, that there isn't one?
Oh well.

                        Regards,
                                Mike
