Those 10 pages, (127 - 136, Viking) are indeed memorable. I don't know
how many times I've read them. I do recall the first time I read through
them my heart was pounding and I had to stop reading fo a bit. Then I
went back to find the start and immediately reread the whole section
again, relishing each phrase and choice of words. I don't know of any
novel that I can return again and again to. Simply open the book and
start reading. The immediacy (sp?) of the prose makes plot of no
consequence. One is there in that place at that time, moving through that
continuum... If a religious text were written that enthralls me the way
GR does, I'd be tempted to give up my atheism and become a true believer...
I reread that section just last night. It encapsulates the Christmas
idea in such a woderful way. The hope, the promise,... But in the
end, the rocket goes off, doesn't it.
