more than a little one, i think. I just happen to have read the passage
in question last night (christmas eve (p.127-136 Penguin).
very moving iteration of the "site of possiblity/redemption/edenic"
theme that occurs so many times in GR and Vineland. All the bungled and
botched gather with hope around a possibilty for birth of a pure and new
chance fore life.
Mr. P., despite all the changes and pessimism is moved too by hope
for the future. A nice "crutch" to bear, this time of year, to all you
sympathetic Christ-miss ears.

"What is most appealing about young folks, after all, is the changes, not
the still photograph of finished character [perhaps the wear and tear of
"death by government"] but the movie, the soul in flux."
you dig?
