Hello Pynchon Fans:
At the risk of dating myself, there is an excellent version of a Pynchon song by
a long forgotten--or never ever heard of--band called Insect Trust.
They're one excellent album, entitled Hoboken Saturday Night, contains a song
called "The Eyes of a New York Woman." The lyrics are from V, the melody by
the group. It is an altogether excellent song--take the word of this
ex-musician with 20 years of road battle scars.
Luckily I have a copy of the album--purchased it new years before I finished
my degree and at least a decade before I encountered The Rainbow.
For all TP fans, the song alone is worth the cost of the album--if you can
find it. If anyone is interested, I will gladly look through the old pile of
LPs and find the name of the record label and the catalog number.
On another matter--has anyone read the classic quantum mechanics work
entitled "The Dancing Wu Lei Masters?" I happened upon the book about 10
years ago and it opened GR for me. I do not think that you can understand
the implications of GR without understanding the basics of quantum
mechanics--probablity, for one, and the nature of the observer-centered
universe.
Both concepts are clearly explained in the first 100 pages of Wu Lei--in
fact, these 100 pages would be all any TP fan would need to grasp Pynchon's
use of the philosophy of quantum mechanics and the total demise of materialism.
Thanks for listening. I look forward to your thoughts!
