I tend to call it the patriarchy, which is not necessarily to say that 
is, men (but I feel close to this interpretation.)  Rilly, I refer to the 
upper end of "the" hierarchy, those who control "human discovery," those 
who govern, etc.  Sure, they're not all evil.  But they tend to destroy 
in the name of progress and they are always there. . . now more than 
ever, as we log on more often than ever before.  The whole panopticon 
thing. I'm part ofit too, it seems, now that i'm teaching in the lab, 
accessing student communication (If i want to, i can--haven't yet.)  Oh, 
it's BIG (did anyone see that unfrozen caverman lawyer in that atrocity 
"Nell"??
