Fenestrations

I keep wondering why the "mystery" over the use of the term 
"transfenestration."  It seems like a reasonable term, one that you might 
have (or he might have) made up to describe going through a window--the 
German, die fenster, you must know.  Doesn't seem like such a big deal.  
But then, as SOMEONE points out, it maybe shouldn't be such a big deal to 
have a dying fish (weird how there's also death in Pynchon's family.) 
This is too nerdy to believe.
