I thought Gaddis prowled the halls of Swarthmore or someplace more
Quakerish. But even if he did graduate from Havard, that doesn't make him
a "Harvard-type." He lived on the lam for years, making less than Pynchon,
never prostituting himself in the halls of academe, like that Barth fellow,
or as an advertising copywriter ala Heller. Read him, again, the evidence
is in the words--don't even have to read between the lines.
You'd never dismiss Mailer the Great (who has a real love/hate infatuation
with the CIA) as a "Harvard Man," or would you?
Yeah, Gore (the crypto-Confederate) and WFBjr go way back.
