FEER

I don't have a direct answer to the inquiry about the "reality" of FEER, but
two things strike a chord:
	1) the Interstate Highway system itself was justified as an a federal
expense by Pres. Eisenhower as a way to quickly move troops around the country
in the event of a "national emergency";
	2) FEER and the internment camp are manifestations of Left paranoia of
the 1960s/'70s.  I'm not sure about rumors about something like FEER--that
one-time only, camoflagued, self-de(con)structing roadway is one of the best
things in VINELAND--but the internment camps for potential dissidents were one
source of constant gossip/news in the alternative press in those days.  So far,
in light of various revelations (Yes, Virginia--we were bombing Cambodia, the
CIA was engaged in experiments with LSD on unknowing citizens, the FBI was
illegally spying on and killing would-be rebels, the President was trying to
subvert the Constitution), it's one of the few paranoid speculations of those
days that hasn't come to light (particularly the news that Spiro Agnew was in
charge of a committee to look in to suspending the 1972 elections and  declaring
martial law).
