It is indeed real & I'll bet you yourself have traveled part of it!
Federal laws dictate that the government/military can assume total and
absolute control of the interstate highways during a time of national
crisis. In fact, that is one of the main reasons the feds wanted the I
built -- to quickly move weaponry across country in the event of a Soviet
invasion.
Don't believe me? Read any book on the interstate system. Check through
back issues of "The Progressive." (I believe the book "Trinity's Children"
may mention the fact as well.) Ask your congressman. (I'm starting to
sound like Donald Sutherland in "JFK.")
And in case you think it could never happen to you & your section of I,
here's an anecdote for you: Not long after Clinton was elected, he paid a
visit to Albuquerque. We here are proud of the fact that two major
interstates (I-40 & I-25) intersect right in the middle of our fair city --
we call it "the big I," for interchange. The secret service, along with
local & state authorities CLOSED DOWN the Big I for the better part of 90
minutes for Clinton's motorcade to use it. Not only that, they did so
during heavy traffic. When locals complained, the authorities said, "The
interstate is a federal highway and thus they have the power to do whatever
they want with it." And it wasn't even an emergency!
INTERSTATE TRIVIA: Who can tell me, without looking at a map, which
directions I-25 and I-40 travel?
Answer in your next box of Pop Tarts!!!
