He's the one who gets the silver spoon up the nose credit, no? N.B. on
which subject I recently viewed `Dr Mabuse Der Spieler' which was
rerun in a new print at the Edinburgh Filmhouse with piano
accompaniment. There are lots of Pynchon echoes - money laundering in
the batcave a la Saure Bummer, manipulation of markets - but no really
direct connections apart from the (deliberately unexplained) borrowing
of names e.g. von Wenk, Naerrisch, Der Springer/Spieler. But Lang
deserves the silver spoon award for best opening line when one of
Mabuse's henchmen turns to a twitchy Naerrisch and sneers `You've been
taking cocaine again!'
