pynchon is a reclusive man to maintain alienation; he does not wish to
be known by this society and identified as part of it, preferring his
status as alienated to keep himself free from its illness.  same
reason black metal bands refuse to rise above underground.  i say we
respect his alienation; on the net it has been done for years with
handles, and in the fields of norway it is done with corpsepaint and
mantle.

it is at least counterpoint to the public selves we all maintain.
