Dear Rick, or Moxie is it?
Not sure if you were insulting me or not, and if so , why. If what I wrote
sounded like a "warm draft of air coming from a window to another dimension"
or some such, then how would we describe what you wrote? I guess one of the
dangers of being lucid since 6th grade is that it sorta wears off after a
while, huh? But I'm really happy you've been lucid since 6th grade,
dreaming or otherwise, and your dog too . . .
Anyway I was just trying to defend VINELAND against someone else's warm
drafty windowlike charge of LAXNESS. A got a few posts generally more or
less agreeable. But I do think that the closest ontological categorty to
which GR might signify is "dream." This stems from my own sense of what the
ending is all about. and the the idea of a film being played in reverse. And
also on that beautiful phenomenon of semi-sleep: you're asleep and
dreaming; the real telephone by your bed begins to ring; in your dream,
time suddenly stops, spins, and your dream narrative deftly reconstructs
itself to encompass a ringing telephone, which is suddenly a part of your
dream, and the interface . . . you turn dreaming to the dreamphone, and your
eyes open to the real one by your bed. This might be what happens when that
reversed screaming comes across the sky (reversed in that the rocket's
already landed, right?).
Arfarf fella,
John Mascaro
