V. as a recurring character

this talk of v's within v's--it's really a fractal image, like naturally 
occuring shapes and formation in the physical world.  I wonder if 
Pynchon's encyclopedic knowledge includes a bit of Mandelbrot.  Idon't 
doubt it.  In fact, if you buy the "cultural matrix" thing, you could say 
he need not have known of the mathematician's work at all.

also, if it's a fractal, then no one v is really any more important than 
another.
