Tim,

You mention Hayles, as I have.  I own both and have read and re-read them 
many times.  It is from Hayles that I gain support fot the notion that 
Pynchon need not have knowledge of computer-generated fractal images.  
It's a response to the cultural matrix and the permutations therein.  
It's a vague concept that, it seem, you either buy or don't.  I do.  

I stress the visual in order to invite you to think of the text 
differently from how you otherwise might.  And to represent how I came to 
my developing argument.  Still working it out.  I'll keep your comments 
in a folder to review as I revise.  Thanks.
