Etymology of Jamf

Dear Steven Weisenburger,

Bonnie Surfus said that it is good to see you chiming in pynchon-l. The 
same goes for me, to whom the Companion has been indispensable; to me 
especially, because I'm not a native English speaker. Or inside American
culture. When I read GR for the first time, I moved on unaided, which 
was wonderful as such, but I must say that the second reading was far
more rewarding, having your book along with me. I had also Fowler's, but
left it aside soon; I dare say that it really is not a healthy book to
read. He pushes so fervently his own closed interpretation.  

The reason why I started writing this is that I think I owe you an
explanation. That is: as you probably know, there is this new www
Pynchon page. Brian Stonehill was kind enough to include an essay of
mine on GR in it. However, the Pomona scanner hasn't transferred my
fax all correctly. There are quite a few missing/misplaced letters
etc. What is more, they have taken off my notes and references. So,
e.g., when I introduce that list of popular and subcultural discourses
I originally make it very well known that I have taken the majority of 
them from your companion. As well as the translation of that 
pseudo(?)-Borgesian poem, etc. 

Would you like to have the original essay, let me know it. I'd be
delighted to send it to you by fax or snail mail.
