it was not my intention

Dear list members, it was not my intention to make it
public when I wrote to Steven Weisenburger 30 minutes
ago; I meant to answer "no" when I was asked "reply to
all recipients?" But it looks like that I have been
conditioned to answer "yes". (Conditioned by whom,
P(ointsma)n or P(yncho)n? By the way, when Pointsman
is dreaming about the Nobel prize, could that also be
Pynchon's self-sarcastic prophecy of his own coming
status in the literary Establishment - a status that
the Book will confirm? I'm not saying that "Pynchon"
would be *all* Pointsman, but that the writer feels
that his book will irrevocably fulfill *some* similar
functions in Western publicity.)
Of course, there is nothing in my message that I wouldn't
be ready to tell openly. But it may seem impolite to
mail such a "bilateral" message to the list.
I hope not all of you will quit the list for the summer; it
is only now, after several months, that I'd have time to
participate in discussions. And, finally, summer's here,
too -- a l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleur -- so I want to
say hi to all in Kentucky and the Earth.
Heikki
