Has anybody RECOGNIZED the influence of Gaddis's novel on Mr. P?
I was shocked to find that someone else was writing the kind of real
biting satire of intellectual movements that we all love. Gaddis is a
little less wild than Macho Pyncho, but the Recognitions (1955) is ahead
of its time and shockingly makes Pynchon seem almost a predictable
development.
I guess I think Pynchon is extending and broadening the kind of form and
theme Gaddis began, consciously or not.
whaddya think?
