[Zachary Haberer]

I'm a'ploddin through The Recognitions now, mostly on the
recommendations of folks on this list.  One hundred pages in,
what can I say?  Something is definitely there, yes I think I
just saw it-- right -- here --> ___ . 

No, no, torpedoes just impacted on the surface.  Have to pull up 
and set up for another run.  Don't know exactly why I'm thinking 
of Star Wars here-- maybe I just want to fire off one clear shot of 
insight and blow this death star of a novel to pieces.

There's something interesting here, whatever it is, but I just
can't seem to... recognize it.  I think its a character-- you
know, a whole person, not some sort of intellectual profile,
useful for some Purpose.  Maybe in fact that's what it will
become.  Right now, however, I'm wondering whether Wyatt has an
actual character or is Gaddis just exorcising all the medieval.
arcana someone forced into him as a child-- his description of
the Jesuits suggests something of the sort.

Anyway, that's where I am right now.
