Putting holes in your head.... (fwd)

Uhhh. . . 

I have a question.  What about the holes?  Is the brain, then, left 
exposed?  Forever?  Can this be a good thing, risking such serious infection?

I can't imagine WANTING to saw through the skull.  Maybe for Amanda and 
whoever else tried it, there was such NEED to relieve pressure and thus 
evoke SANITY that the operation was an imperative unable to be ignored.
