No, the audio version of Ulysses by Recorded Books (800-638-1304) is not a
radio recording. It is a studio recording done with the authorization of
the James Joyce estate. Apparently they did a fair amount of research
before recording the book (compiling pronunciation guides, etc.). The
first 17 episodes are narrated by Donal Donnely, and the Penelope episode
by Miriam Healy-Louie, both Dubliners I believe. Damn good to my ears.
I rented the tapes (30 of them) this summer and listened to them on long
walks in the hot Texas sun. Went through the tapes twice, and lost 20
pounds in the process!
By the way, Donal Donnely also narrated Dubliners and Portrait.
In any event, this is proof enough that GR could be narrated. It would
take much research and expert "non-dramatic" reader(s).
