Paul's inquiry appropriately came on September 14th, which
is Holy Rood Day. As someone who was born on this day and
a Jew, this came as a complete surprise to me. But read
an essay once on the significance of this date in GR.
Apparently, it plays a big role in the novel, with Pynchon
milking the holy rood (Jesus' cross) references for all
their worth.

Went home last night trying to find the essay or any other
references to the date, but came up empty. Is there anyone
who knows about this or am I starting to hallucinate in my
old age (turned 42 yesterday).
