yeah, well, IMHO Dickens is a crappy writer and Twain is very,
very hit-and-miss.  Certainly neither writes on the level of
Musil, a Proust or a Stevens...I'm not condemning these two for
their social engagement, it's just that I think as far as
literary production goes, social engagement might not have
anything to do with the production of high-level art.

This must sound very elitist.  Oh, well.
