Okay, I'll go with this.....

Eek. I disagree. Uh, howzabout:

The Crying of Lot 49
	Screenplay by Buck Henry
	Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Hmmm. I guess it's no more insane than anything else we've suggested,
although Coppola is a major league crap artist these days. Why not written
and directed by the Coen Bros? Much more fluid than those two clowns you
mention.

Closer to my heart, although better might be:

Vineland
	Screenplay by Quentin Tarantino
	Directed by Gus Van Sant

Howzabout Robert Downey Jr. as Slothrop (I bet he slings a mean
ukuelele), Lena Olin as Katje, and, of course, John Goodman as (hyugh,
hyugh) Pig Bodine.

All in all, I think it's important to remember the words of James M. Cain
in these matters. Someone was interviewing Cain after Hollywood had
adapted most of his works with varying degrees of infidelity. The
interviewer asked Cain, "Mr. Cain, are you angry about how HOllywood has
destroyed your books?" Cain waved his hand towards the bookcase,
"Destroyed them? No, they're still all there."

So I say, bring on Heather Locklear as Margherita and Brad Pitt as
Slothrop. We still have the real deal, and always will.
