GM Trolley-cide

Thanks for the tip about the show--I'll have to see if it's showing here
in Tampa Town. This conspiracy included one of the big tire companies
(Firestone?) and one of the big oil companies as well as GM. All three
were soundly patted on the wrist and told to be good when they were
recently convicted. This shift from public transportation to the SOV
(single occupant vehicle for those not in the biz) is one of the major
factors in the development of our current energy-and-land-intensive
system. Our government through various post-WWII policies that encouraged
white flight and the death of central cities was essentially a partner of
Them (who are in this case the aforementioned industries). Interestingly,
many cities have recreated, or are considering recreating, trolley lines.
These are ususally small lines in touristy areas, but hey it's a start.
